I made a cake this weekend! Specifically, this kind. Specifically for this guy:

It was his birthday this last Thursday. And he needed a cake.

I am proud of myself for baking a cake from scratch and not from a box. It wasn’t as good as when my friend Laura made it, but it was still pretty good. The birthday boy liked it, which was most important. And cake for lunch can never be bad anyway.

This past week was terrible, hence the no posts. This weekend was fantastic. Friday night – worked late and then went to the UWS for dinner with my cousin, her boyfriend, and her dad (my uncle). Family time always a good time.

Saturday – gym time and grocery store time and then I baked an awesome cake! After the cake came out (btw the batter was amazing), I went back to my cousin’s for her housewarming party. Talked to lots of people, ate lots of cheese.

And then today – walked the Brooklyn Bridge, hung out at Brooklyn Bridge Park and then walked the Brooklyn Heights Promenade (lots of Brooklyn!) followed by actually eating some cake and then later on drinks and dinner at The Clover Club.

Have I mentioned lately that I love Brooklyn? And chocolate cake. And other things, too.

Here’s to a better week!

Here I am with my mom and older sister at Jane’s Carousel in downtown/Dumbo Brooklyn. If you know anything about me you might know that I have a slight thing for carousels. They’re magical and the horses are so pretty. I love the colors and the gold and the lights. And it’s fun to play pretend.

So Jane’s Carousel finally opened this past weekend after being in a studio since the 80’s getting restored. I had walked by it in its studio two years or so ago so it was really exciting to see it finally in action. Since my mom and Emily were here, I had some partners in crime that I knew would check it out with me.

Here’s my mom and I getting ready for the ride to begin. My mom is holding the $2 card that you buy and they scan to let you in. Each one has apicture of a horse in it and it’s kind of cool. Also, $2 is not bad, actually. Also, I basically have this exact picture except with Kayti on a carousel in Chicago. Nice.

Emmy Boo is making a kissy face.

Since it’s official opening on Friday (and leading up to it) I had probably read every article about it on blogs and looked at every picture and everywhere I looked made me actually confused about exactly where it was – I knew it was between the Brooklyn Bridge and Manhattan Bridge but I had a hard time visualizing the space it was in so this picture should hopefully give you the right effect:

There you can see Brooklyn Bridge behind it and the glass case it’s in. Ah, I’m so happy it’s finally out and working! See you again very soon, I’m sure, Jane’s Carousel.

If I had the time and energy, I would start a new blog consisting of pictures of my feet in different places. I think it could be awesome and amazing and perhaps possibly mysterious if I posted the photos without descriptions. It wouldn’t always be feet in front of a landscape, it might be feet stepping on things and feet with different shoes and for some reason I actually think this would be cool. And now that it’s on the internet, if you like your feet, I suggest you make a go for it. Who knows, there may even be a book deal in your future as they seem to be giving those away these days like they’re candy.

And now that I got that off my chest, I can talk about the weekend. This weekend was a many adventure. I got to see a lot of people I know who live in Michigan, people I didn’t know until I made friends with people in New York from Michigan too. And Michigan people are some good people. I also got to see one Michigan girl, Abby, whom I’ve known since we were babes. That is her feet in the above left with my feet above right as we both catch some rays at Brooklyn Bridge Park on Saturday. I love Brooklyn Bridge Park and I can walk there from my new apartment and I plan on taking well advantage of that this summer. By the way if you look reallllll hard and squint your eyes just right, you can almost see the Statue of Liberty. I don’t understand how cameras work because when I sit there I can see the Statue clear as day and then when I take a picture the only thing clear as day is my feet. But it’s there, I promise.

City feet picture number two:

Miss Tan Feet on the left, Kelly Purkey, and I hung out in Central Park Sunday for some more rays (although, cloudy) and some good old-fashioned girl talk. And maybe a nap. I’m not sure what I’m lacking in my life, really. Maybe just another pair of feet.

HELLO! I am really in Germany right now, but since you’re not in Germany with me right now (or ARE you?) I’ve got a few more pics I want to post from my adventures when my sister was in town.

Namely:

We were on a billboard for American Eagle in Times Square, a store I have not shopped at in YEARS, but which had the most amazing marketing plan we could not resist – buy anything and they scan the barcode of your receipt and then you take a picture and they put it on their billboard right in front of the store on Broadway! Insane! And it goes in a rotation so it actually came up more than once. So much fun! So I got some brand new sleepy shorts with elephants on them and I happen to love them, so nice work AE!

Why is Emily so sad at Shake Shack? Obviously City Mitten does not need yet another Shake Shack post, but this picture is so interesting I had to put it up. Why so sad, Emily?

This is Emily on my street, a beautiful, beautiful street in Brooklyn. I love Brooklyn! I do not love Emily’s cigarettes, which is why I will include a SURGEON’S GENERAL WARNING: SMOKING WILL KILL YOU. Seriously. This is not an advertisement for smoking. It is an advertisement for Emily wearing her first skinny jeans – or jeggings really, because she finally got her first pair (from Uniqlo, duh) and she is wearing them in this picture here. Lovely!

And finally…

Emily and I at the new Brooklyn Bridge Park! Am I the best tour guide or what? See all the excitement we had while she was here? You can’t beat that.

So yep. I’m still in Germany! Pictures and posts to come soon!
