Abby is Greek. I like Greek food (study abroad, what?). We are great friends.

When I first moved to the city, Abby visited me and we went to Astoria to meet up with her Greek friend and he took us to a fabulous restaurant where we ordered what felt like the entire menu. Yesterday we went on an adventure to Bay Ridge to go to Agnanti Meze.

I have a takeout menu in which Abby starred everything we ordered, because she did all the ordering and I was just happy to be there.

The only thing I made us order was a Greek salad, which you could say is a boring thing to order, but traditional Greek salads are pretty much my favorite thing in the world.

I love tomatoes, cucumbers, and FETA!

This is ntakos: Cretan rusk, tomatoes, feta, olives, capers, oregano and olive oil. Abby says she cannot buy Cretan rusk anywhere in Michigan and she really wanted to try it, so we made sure Agnanti had it on the menu before we went.

Kolokythokeftedes Mykonos: zucchini and cheese croquets that were really good.

Beef bourek, which was maybe my favorite. The crust was homemade and phenomenal. I would order this again.

We also got vegetables pikilia: fried zucchini, eggplant, peppers and garlic mashed potatoes. Basically we got a lot of food.

There was a huge family sitting next to us and they kept ordering more and more food and it was kind of hilarious. The servers would come out carrying a bunch of plates and go back to the kitchen and come back out with their arms full of more. That’s just the Greek culture though. We ordered a bunch of appetizers and they ordered a bunch of appetizers and THEN the main course. I love Greek food. And I love Abby. She has left me now and I am very sad. She’s going to move here and have a classy housewarming party and make a ton of Greek dishes and it’s going to be great. Come back to Agnanti with me soon, Abby!

sheisbored

This is Michelle. She flew into NYC for the weekend to visit and I made her play model for me. As you can see, she got a little bored. We went to my friend’s Gossip Girl-themed birthday party on the LES Saturday night and she wore a dress from the Anna Sui for Target collection, which was inspired by the show. Yeah, girl.

One of our first stops for the weekend was the Doughnut Plant.

Um, yeah. If you’ve never been here, you don’t know what you’re missing. I mean, it’s not just doughnuts, it’s a way of life.

I made her get the blackout doughnut and a creme brulee doughnut which is exactly what I got too. At first she wasn’t convinced, but after her first bite, there were no complaints. She couldn’t believe how good they were either. Of course there are more options (tres leches for one) but the blackout and creme brulees are too good for me to pass up for anything else.

blackout

The blackout is a cake doughnut but to me, it’s really just cake. It’s so chocolatey: chocolate crumbs on the top and gooey chocolate in the middle. It’s hard to describe but basically, you should get one now. A word to the wise: The Doughnut Plant is closed Mondays. I learned that one the hard way.

And the creme brulee:

brulee

Another not-your-average doughnut. It may be small on size but it is huge on taste. My mom’s favorite dessert is creme brulee so she absolutely loves these doughnuts.

After the Doughnut Plant, we somehow found ourselves in the middle of the San Gennaro Festival.

We played tourists and took pictures just like everyone else.

It’s not every weekend I get to have brunch on Saturday AND Sunday.

Yep, that was my brunch this morning. After going to the Journey Church with my mother, we went to Good Enough to Eat, a cute little spot on the UWS. I’ve tried to go before but the line was too long and today we only waited about five minutes. Granted, we didn’t make it there til 2:30 but 2:30 is an excellent brunch time for me!

So above we have granola pancakes with bananas and blackberries, lightly dusted with powdered sugar. AND strawberry butter. Mmm so good. My mom got scrambled eggs that came with biscuits, also served with strawberry butter. Strawberry butter is good.

They really utilize their space at Good Enough to Eat. As you can see, they sat us RIGHT next to the bakery case and there was even two people that they sat at a table that was BEHIND it. But we didn’t mind, I’d sit anywhere in that place. It’s cute and kitschy too, with cows and barn-themed stuff and cotton balls on the ceiling shaped like the clouds that come from airplanes, saying “Good Enough to Something.” Yeah, something, cause I don’t remember what it really said. But it was cute.

And there’s my mom, leaving the place; the line and the picket fence. She’s looking for her glasses. By the way she hates pictures of herself and she’s probably not going to be pleased that I put them on here. But I think she’s lovely and this is my blog so sorry, Mom!
